GETTING THERE & AWAY
Air
Bologna's main airport is Guglielmo
Marconi Airport (BLQ). It is 6
km northwest of the city center and
from here visitors can take the bus
or a taxi to Bologna. If you are not
coming from other European cities,
however, the chance is likely that
you'll arrive at Malpensa Airport in
Milan. From here, visitors can take
a three-hour rail journey to
Bologna. Train
Bologna is a major railway junction
for northern Italy, with frequent
services from Rome and Milan, many
of them Eurostar trains. The main
station in Bologna is Bologna's
Central Railway Station.
Bus
The central bus station in Bologna
is opposite Piazza XX Settembre,
just around the corner from the
train station. There are buses to
and from most major Italian cities
as well as international buses from
Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Paris,
Prague and Warsaw. Car
Bologna can be reached from Europe
via A1 Autostrada del Sole which
also links Milan, Florence and Rome.
The A13 is the main route if
you are driving from Ferrara, Padova
or Venezia. The A14 provides
a link from Rimini and Ravenna
whereas the Via Emilia (S9)
connects Bologna with Milan as well
as the Adriatic Coast. If you are
coming from Ferrara, take the S64.
GETTING
AROUND
Bologna has an efficient bus
system operated by ATC. You'll find
information booths at the train
station and on Via Marconi at the
junction with Via Ugo Bassi and Via
Lame. There are frequent buses from
the train station to the city
center. Not all bus routes operate
on Sunday. Taxis are also plenty
once you are tired of walking.
