Area del
Porto Antico
This area is a good example of how
the old buildings and the modern
edifices can coexist with each
other. To be found in the district
is the largest aquarium in Europe,
the Galleon, the building of the
Cotton Stores, a museum, numerous
commercial outlets and restaurants
and cafés . Not to be missed is a
trip on the Bigo, the rotating
panoramic elevator which provides an
impressive view over the entire
city.
Palazzo
Ducale
The Palazzo Ducale was founded in
the 14th century as the first city
council. The first floor houses the
beautiful chapel and other great
rooms such as the Room of the Two
Councils. Today the Palazzo Ducale
has become a multi-purpose cultural
center where visitors can wander in
the antique shops, bookshops,
restaurants, nightclubs as well as
visiting important exhibitions which
are held here at the time of your
visit.
Cattedrale di
San Lorenzo
To many, the Cathedral of San
Lorenzo symbolizes the city's faith
and affluence. Endowed with unique
architectural features, some of
which are the black and white
striping and the French Gothic
carvings, this establishment is
highly a must-see. Also, a crypt
that is said to hold the remains of
John the Baptist was found here
although its authenticity is still
being disputed.
Centro
Direzionale San Benigno
San Benigno is dominated by
the imposing skyscrapers, one of
which is the World Trade Center
which is also the largest in the
area. The restaurant at the top of
the World Trade Centre, the largest
tower, offers a spectacular view
over the port and the
city.
Ponte
Monumentale
Built around 1895, the wide arch of
Ponte Monumentale offers an
impressive view of the city from its
apex. Underneath the bridge is a
shrine to the resistance fighters
with inlaid stones recording reasons
why the city of Genoa was awarded
the gold medal for valor (1947), the
names of the fallen partisans and
the circumstances of the surrender
by the German troops (25 April
1945).
Castello
Mackenzie
This marvellous castle was built by
a Florentine architect under the
commission of the Scottish
millionaire E. Mackenzie between
1896-1904. It is an eclectic work of
art, integrating the sophisticated
medieval style and the graceful Art
Nouveau together which are reflected
in its well-built towers, draw
bridges, mosaics and wrought iron
embellishment.

Genovese e Ligure
This museum is one of the newest in
Genoa, housing the fascinating
collections of artifacts and
exhibits which educate visitors as
well as the locals about the Genoese
peasant culture. Various
agricultural implements, numerous
photographs with captions, extensive
documents as well as cassettes are
on display.
Teatro Carlo
Felice
The Carlo Felice Theater is one of
the best example of the traditional
Italian horseshoe shaped structure.
It was badly damaged during WWII,
after which the restoration was
undertaken which has resulted in the
addition of the advanced mechanism
to the neo-classical
features.
Via Garibaldi
Via Garibaldi is the representative
of the important 16th century urban
phenomenon which was replicated
throughout the city as part of its
expansion plan. Considered one of
the most monumental roads in the
whole peninsula, many of the city's
most important buildings are located
here, many of which have been now
turned into
museums.
Cinque Terre
Cingue Terre is a community of five
Ligurian villages situated not very
far away from Genoa (82 km).
Visitors can take the train to these
picturesque seaside villages, each
of which carrying its own history
and character, and get your fill of
the unspoiled scenery of the blue
sea and Mediterranean vineyards and
farms. You can also hike, swim or
pursue gastronomic delights with the
local food and wines here.
