Shopping
There are numerous designer outlets
in Venice. If you are after haute
couture shopping, the areas to look
out for are Mercerie, Calle
Madonetta and Strada Nova which
are packed with high quality and
stylish boutiques. For food and
fresh produce to other trinkets,
visit open-air markets at Santa
Maria Formosa, Santa
Margherita and the Rialto.
Dining
As a distinctive city with a rich
gastronomic culture, visitors can
dine comfortably (albeit sometimes
pricey) at restaurants studded
throughout its historic district. As
usual, the further away you are from
the tourist areas, the cheaper the
price and the more authentic the
food. Check out eateries around San
Polo, Canareggio, Dorsoduro,
Mestre and Casier-Treviso
areas.
Nightlife
Nightlife in Venice is pretty
low-key in general, but venturing to
the student areas such as Campo
Santa Margherita and Fondamenta
della Misericordia will give you
an opportunity to drink, rub
shoulders and mingle with local
students. If you like to meet the
more diverse crowds, also try the
areas around Dorsoduro, Cannaregio
and on San Nicoḷ
beach.
